This explains what we collect, why, where it is kept and how to get rid of it. It is written plainly on purpose — the people it concerns are children, and their parents should be able to read it without a solicitor.
Who we are
Learning Hub is run by Learning Hub, a family-run business in the United Kingdom. For anything about your data, or to make any of the requests below, email hello@uklearninghub.com. We are the data controller for the information described here.
The short version
- We collect what is needed to run the lessons and take payment. Nothing else.
- We do not sell or share your data with advertisers. There are no adverts and no tracking.
- Children never give us an email address. They sign in with a username their parent sets.
- Our AI marking never receives your child's name — only the question, their answer and their year group.
- You can delete a child, or the whole family account, at any time.
What we collect
From the parent or guardian: your email address, your display name, and a password (stored only as a secure hash — we never see it). If you subscribe, Stripe handles your card and sends us back the fact that you have paid and when your plan renews. We never see or store your card number.
From each student: the display name and username you give them, their year group, and their password as a hash. Students do not give us an email address or a phone number.
As they learn: which questions they answered and whether they were right, their scores and mastery, written answers and mock exam scripts, badges and streaks, the results of any games, and anything they write in a project journal or Bible study reflection.
Settings: reading preferences such as colours, fonts and spacing, and any exam access arrangements a parent sets, such as extra time.
Technical: a sign-in cookie so the site knows who you are, and — only if you switch notifications on — a token from your browser so we can send them. Standard server logs record requests and errors.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Mostly because we need it to provide what you signed up for — that is a contract. Keeping billing records is a legal obligation. Keeping the service secure and working is a legitimate interest. Notifications are on consent, and you can withdraw that whenever you like by turning them off.
Children's accounts
A student account can only be created by an adult, and the adult who creates it controls it. Parents can see everything their child has done, change or archive the account, reset the password, and delete it. Children cannot change billing, cannot see other families, and are not asked for any contact details.
We do not profile children for marketing, we do not use their work to train AI models, and we do not show them adverts of any kind.
Who else sees it
Very few people, and only where the service could not work otherwise.
- Anthropic — powers the AI marking, walkthroughs, exam feedback and reading helper. It receives the question, the student's answer and their year group. It does not receive their name, username or email. Anthropic does not use it to train models.
- Stripe — takes payment. They receive your card and billing details directly; we do not.
- Our email provider — sends confirmation and password-reset emails, so it handles your email address.
- YouTube — hosts the video lessons, embedded in privacy-enhanced mode so no advertising cookies are set. If a child plays a video, YouTube receives their IP address and basic playback information. This only applies if your family has the video section switched on.
That is the whole list. We do not use advertising networks, analytics trackers, social media pixels or data brokers, and we never sell anything to anyone.
Where it is kept
On our own server in the United Kingdom, not on a third-party platform. Connections are encrypted, passwords are hashed, and each family's records are separated at the database level so one family can never read another's.
How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep it so progress is not lost.
- Delete a student and their work goes with them.
- Close the family account and we delete it within 30 days.
- Billing records are kept for six years, because tax law requires it.
- Server logs are kept for a short period and then discarded.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the data we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict what we do with it, or object to it. Parents can exercise these on behalf of their children. Email hello@uklearninghub.com and we will respond within one month. There is a progress report download and a CSV export in the dashboard if you simply want your child's data now.
If you think we have handled your data badly, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
Only the ones that make signing in work, and a small amount of browser storage that remembers your reading settings so pages do not flash the wrong colour. No advertising cookies, no tracking cookies, nothing shared with anyone else. That is why there is no annoying cookie banner.
Changes
If we change anything important we will say so on this page and email account holders. The date at the top always shows when it last changed.
